1. Pre-screening process

Barney’s has established long term relationships with many of the top breeders in the United States. Pre-screening begins by knowing where the animals are from, and how they are cared for in their prior environment. Our expectations are high and any supplier is held to those standards. All animals are carefully examined upon arriving at Barney’s for any signs of illness or other defects.

After entering, they are placed into “quarantine” areas in which further examinations are instituted. This includes batch testing for viruses. Upon receiving a clean bill of health our babies are then moved into the general population. If we have any concerns, an animal will not be moved and may be placed into our infirmary for treatment and or an exam by our on staff veterinarian.

2. Daily Requirements

Barney’s Pets take pride in maintaining a clean sterile environment at all times.

• Daily sterilization of feeding and water bowls.
• Medium to large sized bird stands and cages are portable and temporary.
• Food is changed daily and all foodstuffs, fresh fruits, veggies, bread, etc., are allocated accordingly.
• On staff Veterinarian makes regular checks of all animals.
• Small birds are kept separate from the larger species.
• All employees are highly trained and species specific.
• Special raised aviaries allows for free flight in a clean room environment.
• Housed in separate rooms with separate air space.

3. Safe Transport Procedures

The safety and health of our animals doesn’t stop when they leave. We ship nationwide with our own specially made shipping boxes. They are built to allow for the comfortable transport from our facility to yours. We pack enough water and foodstuff for a minimum of 4 days. This is done as a precautionary measure in case of unforeseen delays. All animals are individually checked before shipment.

Barney’s also maintains its own fleet of temperature controlled trucks that “hand deliver” your orders throughout the states of California, Arizona, and Nevada. All other states can be serviced by the major airlines that handle avian companion animals. Barney’s contracts out only professional temperature controlled couriers to deliver the birds from the airport to your store.
